Morgan West
Hey there! I’m Morgan. Licensed Midwife.
I am so glad you’ve landed here to learn more about me, the East Bay Birth Collective, and how midwifery folds into the mix.
The East Bay has been my home for just over a decade. I came here specifically to practice midwifery, and since have built a beautiful life with my partner, two kiddos, and an ever growing community of families I’ve cared for in my practice.
East Bay Birth Collective is the manifestation of a dream for pregnant and postpartum families in the East Bay to have a place to come and be seen, held, and supported through the intensities of the childbearing times. I not only wanted a place for families to gather, but also make incredible, holistic perinatal care the norm that childbearing families seek out. In bringing together a midwife team, a lactation consultant, a therapist, a pelvic floor physical therapist, and doulas, I hope to create a framework for supporting the physical, emotional and community needs of pregnant and postpartum people.
CREATOR + MIDWIFE
At East Bay Birth Collective…
I offer prenatal care to my Homebirth Midwifery clients through my practice Hummingbird Midwifery with my practice partner, Evaly.
I co-host a weekly drop-in Postpartum Group for folks in their first eight months postpartum.
I teach Childbirth Education for families who are planning to birth at Home or a Birth Center.
I support student midwives in building clinical skills alongside other community midwives through the BIPOC Student Midwives Fund, founded by my practice partner and EBBC co-creator, Evaly. Pregnant people can join us for their Fresh Test Gestational Diabetes Screening or for a palpation clinic to identify your baby’s position by feel.
Why Midwifery Care at EBBC?
Midwifery is a cornerstone in the care of birthing people. The midwifery model sees pregnant and birthing people as far more than a medical case to manage, but rather acknowledges the need for clinical care during these transformational times and places it alongside essential relationship building with a care provider so the pregnant person and family are brought to the center of knowledge, decision making and power.
I came to midwifery knowing how important the initiation of childbirth was for parents and families, and how poorly the standard medical model holds people through this massive transformation. There is nothing like a roaring birthing person to remind you of the sheer power that exists within each of us, and I feel so honored to witness and reflect that power back to the families I work with. Maintaining the sacred container of connection and trust in the birthing and postpartum time is what I am most honored to offer through homebirth midwifery.
Having birthed by unplanned cesarean for my first birth and a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) at home for my second birth, my midwifing has evolved and grown to hold the experience of many different birth outcomes and support postpartum families in integrating and building resilience after their births. Midwifery care leans on the presence of community to function and support growing families. It is an honor to be together at EBBC doing this important work.
